Avila
At 9:30am we get on the train from Atocha to Avila. We chatted throughout the journey, chomping on our snacks. I have learnt that if I do not eat for a long time, my blood sugar drops so I get irritable. I make sure I have at least a mouthful or two to eat, incase we do not find a restaurant soon enough or there is nothing on the menú which I can eat.
We arrive in Avila two hours later, the winding journey through the mountains is very picturesque. I would have liked to have stopped at a few of the villages en route. Avila is impressive, after walking through the streets for a few minutes the walled city comes into view. It takes you back to a different age, a time when defending the city was a matter of life or death. We meander around the outside of the wall, looking out at the views of the rooftops one can see lining the horizon.
